![]() Colonoscopy Golytely (Colyte) Preparation Instructions This procedure is performed in the Gastrointestinal Unit at Hartford Hospital. You will be asked to report to either location for your colonoscopy at Hartford Hospital
You need to be adequately prepared for your procedure. The following steps are to help you prepare for your examination. If you have any questions with the following instructions, please call the office at (860) 548-7336 for clarification. Please note the following preparation is done the day before your colonoscopy.
It is a regulation of the hospital that you have someone drive you for this procedure. Your stay will be approximately 2 hours. You will be unable to drive yourself due to the sedation used during the procedure. Your exam will be cancelled if you fail to follow this requirement. Golytely (Colyte) Colonoscopy Preparation Golytely (Colyte) is a mildly salty solution that is an effective cleansing agent for the gastrointestinal tract if taken according to directions. You will be given a prescription for this solution. It is available at most pharmacies. A normal diet may be eaten including breakfast, until 11:00AM the day before the exam. At this point, only clear liquids may be taken until the morning of the exam. DO NOT TAKE MILK OR MILK PRODUCTS.
PLEASE NOTE: An excellent bowel preparation is essential for a successful colonoscopy. Please follow the instructions carefully. If nausea develops, skip one dose of Golytely, then continue drinking 8 ounces every 15 to 20 minutes. Bowel movements should start about one hour after beginning the Golytely; occasionally, however, they may not start for several hours. |
